"Les Halles" of Narbonne

Located right in the centre of Narbonne, "Les Halles" is the perfect place not only to do your shopping, but also to taste the region's specialties. Whether you're simply buying groceries or eating on the spot, Les Halles is all about good eating.

Representing the soul of Narbonne, this is a must-see whether for the building itself (steel and glass, in the style of Victor Baltard), or for its Mediterranean atmosphere.

This is where it's at for conviviality!

Les Halles is a market renowned for its warm atmosphere and its friendly merchants. Very much a focal point in Narbonne, it is a cheerful setting, especially on Sunday mornings, or for the midday aperitif. A bustling place where people meet to chat and spend a pleasant moment.

Restaurant Chez Bebelle

An iconic restaurant: "Chez Bébelle"

Les Halles also welcome you for a drink and a bite to eat, either standing at one of the zinc bars, or sitting down in a restaurant. Don't miss the blowing whistles, the megaphone and the "meat throws" orchestrated by Gilles (the boss, and former rugby player) with the butchers just across the aisle! All to be seen, and especially to be tasted, at the famous restaurant "Chez Bebelle"! As you will notice, this emblematic place is steeped in the rugby tradition.

Unique architecture

Les Halles are housed in a metal edifice, in the style of Victor Baltard, which is beautiful to see both from the inside and out. Built by André Gabelle and architect Léopold Carlier, this covered market of Narbonne was inaugurated on 1st January 1901. With its combination of steel and glass, this superb building is an ideal place for locals and tourists alike to do their food shopping.

"I go to Les Halles once a week with my husband and my two children to buy all my fresh products. It is also the first place that we show to our family and friends! Les Halles is a place of smiles, laughter, quality products, conviviality, seasonality and local products! In short, it is THE place to be if you are in Narbonne!!"

Practical side

How to get there?

  • By car: Bear in mind that it will not be easy to park in the surrounding streets, depending on the day. Opt for the underground car park, right opposite Les Halles, on Cours Mirabeau. It's open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • By bike: You can park your bike at the corner of Les Halles, rue Emile Zola, in a guarded area (overlooked by a video surveillance camera).
  • By bus: Take the "Citadines" 1 and 2 free shuttles that serve the entire city centre. The "intra-urban lines" also have stops near Les Halles ((Boulevard Docteur Ferroul, Quai Vallière and Quai Victor Hugo).
  • By boat: For boaters, a specific sign located on the banks of the Canal de la Robine indicates that Les Halles aren't far.
